A two-storey gable-roofed house in Mandalay with an arched balcony, a round porthole window and a double-height interior.
01 / 03
A compact two-storey house on a narrow plot. The street front is rendered in cream under a gable roof, with an arched balcony opening framed in dark timber, a round porthole window beside it, and timber bi-fold doors opening onto a covered ground floor carried on timber posts. A concrete ramp and brick steps lead up from the street. The set includes the original design proposal render, and the photographs show the house built closely to it.

Inside, the main room rises through both storeys. A glossy upper ceiling reflects the space below, pendant bulbs in amber glass hang through the void, and a round internal window and a band of clerestory windows open onto the upper level. Dark timber casement windows and panelled doors sit against white walls.

The floors throughout are timber-look boards, with recessed downlights and track spots overhead and concealed cove lighting above the window bands. An arched opening on the upper floor, fitted with a white balustrade, frames the evening view over the neighbouring rooftops.
