An open-sided steel canopy for a car yard on 58th Street in Mandalay, photographed finished and during steel erection, with 3D renders of the design.
01 / 03
The finished building is an open-sided canopy over a car yard on a corner of 58th Street. A low-pitched roof in dark profiled metal sheet is carried on slender dark steel columns. There are no walls to the street, only a low white railing and gate. Inside, the underside of the roof shows the lattice trusses and purlins over a plain concrete floor, with a brick wall at the back.

The middle photographs follow the steel going up. Workers stand on the lattice trusses to fix purlins high above the yard. Scaffold towers support the frame while it is bolted together. Below them the old slab is broken in places and rubble lies to one side. A cleared photograph shows the bare concrete ground before any steel arrived, with the brick boundary wall behind.

The last images are 3D renders of the design, not photographs. They show the canopy lit at night by lamps hung between the purlins. A raised sign panel with the PPE9 mark sits on the street side. Pickups and cars are parked in rows under the roof. A plain white wall closes one end of the yard.
